William Evans “the Jr. or Younger.” (1668-1728) born in Leicestershire, England, (NOTE: And may have arrived on board the ship “Kent” in 1677 or the ship "Amity" in 1682) and went to Evesham Township, Burlington County, New Jersey and married on October 6, 1693 to Elizabeth Hanks (1677-1745) at the Darby Meeting House in Darby Township, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, who was a minister in the Society of Friends. William Evans was an elder, "whose house and heart were open to Friends. He was a man of a noble spirit." An old deed dated 1717 shows that William Evans “the Jr.” transferred one acre and thirty-two perches to the Society of Friends for Meeting purposes and “for a place to bury their dead forever.” In 1694, the first Friends meeting in Mt. Laurel was held in the home of William and Elizabeth Evans. Their children were;
1. Jane Evans, b. 8 mo. (Oct) 1 1699, d. 5 mo. (Jul) 15 1759, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA (married 1717 to William Hudson).
2. Thomas Evans, (1693-1783), Evesham Township, Burlington County, New Jersey, Burlington County, New Jersey, USA.
3. John Evans (abt.1695/1708-1746), Evesham Township, Burlington County, New Jersey.
"William Evans, the progenitor of the family here, died Dec. 23, 1728. His son John inherited the homestead, and from him descended John and William, who held lands adjacent the Evesham meetinghouse, now in Mount Laurel Township. The eldest son, Thomas resided where Joseph K. Evans now resides (in 1882), near Marlton, and bought of Margaret Cook, of Philadelphia, one thousand acres. He afterwards, in 1801, secured a deed of the same from the Indian Chief, Himolin. He left a small Bible, bought by him in 1731, which is now in the hands of Joseph Evans, and also a large Bible in 1775, brought by his father from Wales, to be handed down through the eldest son in regular line. He was a minister."
