Hello Paul. Thanks for your work on the Etheridges/Etheredges. I suspect I was a bit over-keen when I found the baptism of William E, son of Anthony and Mary (Roydon is only 4 miles from Hillington, where William married). Do you have any theories on where he might have sprung from? https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Etheridge-1791

I haven't been able to find any alternatives nearby.

Could be: Etheridge-1345, Etteridge-82 (he died at West Newton just north of Hillington), or Etheridge-2443 (who might be Etteridge-82 anyway), Etheridge-1343. No others in the in the time/location frame.

Hello:

I received a notice that you created an unmerged match for Martha Jane (Ethridge) Yancy (Ethridge-654) and Martha Jane Etheridge (Etheridge-1145). Strangely enough, these are two very different women. Their father's names are spelled differently; and as far as I have been able to determine, they are not related. They have different mothers, and Martha Jane Etheridge never married. Their birth, death and burial locations are also different.

I hope this kind of explains why these two profiles exist.

hiya. I just flagged it for followup later given some similarities. But as you say, they look like different people.

Hi Paul,

I see you completed the merge of https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Armstrong-9444. In the merge proposal notes I had stated: "same birth, same parents, similar death (find a source, or add the discrepancy to Research Notes)." The discrepancy in the death date is now imbedded in the Biography, and there are no Research Notes. Can you please return to the profile and complete the process? Deb ~ data doctor

Thank you for the fast fix! Deb
Thank you, Paul, for letting me know about the duplicate William Etheridge.

thank you paul for your work on our tree

HI Paul,

As you determined during the merge that Happes was the correct spelling of the name on https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Happes-13, please go back and add research notes to explain this decision. As I indicated in my notes, the only sources I had found indicated the spelling of Hoppes. Thank you for improving WikiTree, I am anxious to see your sources.

To do a merge (which was needed) one must select a surname. I can find no evidence of the 'correct' spelling, and in fact, there is unlikely to be a correct spelling. Yes the memorial does say Hoppes, but I have found memorials to be wrong. The memorial also does not say Eva. There is a family tree on My Heritage managed by a James Brian Gouge (who is possibly a decendant) and he uses Hoppes. Feel free to change the spelling.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.

The GEDCOMpare process guide has tips on how to use the data in your file most efficiently.

I hope this helps! If you have any questions or problems, let me know.

Have fun

Thank you for posting the unmerged match between Ethridge-365 and Etheridge-1142. In spite of their shared birth date and place, they are different men. John Etheridge (Etheridge-1142) died of disease in 1862 in Alabama during the early years of the Civil War. I'm pretty familiar with the line of his wife, Mary J. Sharpton, as her brother is my great, great grandfather. Also Ethridge-365 lived 36 years after Etheridge-1142 died. The profile of Ethridge-365 has a link to his grave site, and it has a notation that he is not to be confused with John Etheridge who died in 1862.

Hi Paul,

Thank you for self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Participation in a Pre-1700 Project is strongly encouraged for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Collaboration is essential because pre-1700 ancestors are shared by many descendants.

It looks like the England Project would be a good fit with the profiles you entered. Adding the tag England will help you get updates about activity for that project.

Do you have any questions? Let me know. I'm happy to help! :-)
