Roscoe Emery is a Military Veteran. Served in the United States Army Spanish American War
Roscoe was in Co. G in the 50th Regiment, Iowa Volunteer Infantry in the Spanish American War. His pension petition lists him as being "Army Invalid". The Invalid Corps (later renamed The Veteran Reserve Corps) was a military reserve organization created within the Union Army during the American Civil War to allow partially disabled or otherwise infirmed soldiers (or former soldiers) to perform light duty, freeing able-bodied soldiers to serve on the front lines.
Roscoe is listed on the 1920 census as the "son-in-law" of William Wilson, but it should have been "brother-in-law".
Per the 1940 US Census Roscoe was living in the Veteran's Administration Facility Edward Hines, Jr. Hospital on April 1, 1935 so he had been there at least five years.
According to his death record Roscoe was a traveling salesman who was staying at the YMCA in Proviso Township in Cook County, Illinois at the time of his death.
Roscoe never married and had no children.
