Biography

Anna (or Hannah) Penrose Ellis was born on 24 December 1833 in Lot 12, Prince Edward Island, the daughter of George Ellis and Eleanor McArthur. She was baptized in the Church of England, Richmond Parish in February 1834. ^[1][2]

On the 10th ult., at St. James’s Church, Port Hill, by the Rev. W.H. Cooper, Mr. William H. Williams, of New Bideford, to Hannah Penrose, second daughter of Mr. George Ellis, shipbuilder of the same place.^{[3] [4]}

There were 8 children for Anna or Hannah Penrose and William Henry in the PEI Baptismal Index: Mary Jane (9 July 1851); Eleanor Agnes (10 July 1853); Hannah Josepha (2 October 1856 - some family trees say she was Sophia Josepha, but her nickname was Sephy, not Sophie); Robert Henry (19 June 1861); William Albert (19 July 1865); Sarah Jane (11 April 1868); James Walter (16 July 1870); and John Edward Ball (3 Feb 1874).^[5]. When a place of birth was given, it was Lot 12 or Bideford.

Hannah Williams, wife of William Williams, Lot 11, 23 June 1881, Port Hill. Buried in Episcopal Churchyard, Alberton. ^[6][7]

In Lot 12 in 1881, William Williams , age 54; Hannah P., 48; Robert H 19; Ann G 18; William A 15; Sarah J 14; James H. 11; and Edward J. B 7. All members of the household were born on Prince Edward Island.^[8]
