Biography

Mary Early was born on 30 September 1808 in Wyatts Creek, Knox County, Kentucky, the fourth of six known children and the only daughter of William and Hannah Laughlin Early.
On 30 August 1831, a month before her twenty-third birthday, she married Charles Hobert Gatliff in Knox County, Kentucky.[1]

1870 Census

Mary Gatliff appears in the 1870 United States Federal Census as a 55-yea-old literate widowed farmer with $835 in personal and $4000 in real property, living with three literate sons who are farm laborers, and the oldest of whom has $200 in personal property.

On 9 June 1888, about two months before her eightieth birthday, she died of unknown causes in Clio, Wayne County, Iowa.[3] She is buried in the Gatliff Cemetery, Decatur, Iowa.[4]
