Samuel Durbin, Sr. was born ca 1698, the son of Thomas and Mary? Downs. In St. Paul's Episcopal Church, Baltimore, the records show that on July 4, 1723, Samuel Durbin married Ann Logsdon (of William Logsdon, the Immigrant, and Honor O'Flynn). Even though she was Catholic, they were married in an Anglican Church because of the opposition to the Catholic religion at that time. There are quite a few documentary references tohim, and his thirteen children are equally delineated in both the will of Samuel and that of his wife. He is noted as "of Little Pipe Creek Hundred" which was immedi ately west of Westminster, Maryland.
Honor O'Flynn was mentioned in old records as an Irish girl of great piety, and it was through her that the Catholic element appears in the Durbin line. Family lore handed down through the generations was of a beautiful Irish girl named Honor O'Flynn who was kidnapped from Ireland, brought to this country, and married a Logsdon. These quotes were taken from some Kentucky Catholic records pertaining to one Father Elisha Durbin, son of John J. Durbin and Patience Logsdon.[3]
History of Samuel and Ann Durbin Homestead Written by Mr. Howard Steiner
This is a wonderful home, still standing, in good condition and has been made a shrine by the Methodist Church of America. There are roadside signs pointing to its location about two miles out from Westminster, Maryland. The Durbins became interested in Methodism and the first American ordained bishop Francis Asbury47 often visited with the Durbins during three genera tions of that family, preached in their home as well as Robert Strawbridge, recognized by many as the first Methodist preacher in America. He was a near neighbor and friend. The Durbins were active in establishing Methodism in this country and William belonged to the First Society of Methodism.48
I do not know when Christopher left Maryland. He was born in 1741. The home was built in 1767. If he was still there at that time, he no doubt worked on the home himself. He was likely born in the log cabin Samuel built. An old building is near the home which could have been this original log cabin.
In Frederick County, Will Book A·l, Page 78, there is recorded the will of Samuel Durbin dated September 19, 1752, and probated October 23, 1752. He bequeaths 100 acres to son William Durbin and 50 acres to son Samuel Durbin. He names son John Durbin and daughters Margaret and Ann Durbin (Fredrick Co. Probates, 1:78).

"Not far from Pipe Creek (a small creek in present day Carroll County) lived William Durbin who with his wife joined the Methodists in 1768. Their house was an early stand for preaching, and their son, John Durbin, was a traveling preacher. "
