Biography
Charlotte was born in Newhills, Scotland, in 1866, the daughter of George and Charlotte (Robertson) Duguid.[1] The family, including Charlotte and her 4 siblings, immigrated to the United States in 1871, settling in Rockport, Massachusetts.[2]
Charlotte graduated from the State Normal School, a training college for teachers in Salem, Massachusetts, in 1888. [3] Her sister also attended the school and became a teacher.
She was a teacher at the Morse School in Somerville, Massachusetts, for 2 years, until she resigned in 1896.[4]
In 1893, she married William A. Lawton, a commercial merchant of Boston.[5]
In 1898, she returned to her education career, as the supervisor of music in Somerville elementary schools.[6][7]
In the 1900 census Charlotte D Lawton (age 33), Supervisor of Music, was the married head of household in Somerville Ward 3, Middlesex, Massachusetts.[8]

She died in 1938. She is buried at the Locust Grove Cemetery in Gloucester, Massachusetts.[9]
