Mary Jo Duggan was born on 3 January 1927 in Oklahoma, daughter of James Clifford Duggan and Ina Davis.^[1][2][3][4]

She married Joseph Newton Copeland on 7 November 1947 in Oklahoma, Oklahoma. She was 20 years old.^[5] They are the parents of former Oklahoma governor, Mary (Copeland) Fallin

She married Robert Colley Ivy in 1995.

She died (age 78) on 11 February 2005.^[6][7][8]

Copeland died Thursday at a Shawnee hospital after an extended illness, according to a statement from Fallin's office. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Tecumseh City Hall. "Copeland, who had been confined to a Tecumseh nursing home the past several years because of declining health, was preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Newton Copeland. "The Copelands each served as Tecumseh mayor. She was the first woman in the post. "Survivors include Fallin and a son, Bill Copeland, and four grandchildren. Funeral arrangements are by Cooper Funeral Home in Tecumseh. "Fallin said in a statement: "I appreciate Oklahomans keeping my family and me in their thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. I have lost both a mother and a mentor, who taught me that public service is a high calling and an important duty." Fallin asked that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in the name of Mary Jo Copeland to Character First, 520 W Main St., Oklahoma City, OK 73102."
