Anne Dodain

Fille de feu Jacques et de Marie Gauchère, du bourg de Loix, Île de Ré, en Aunis (Charente-Maritime), née vers 1651[1]
Elle arrive à Québec le 30 juin 1669 à bord du vaisseau Le St-Jean-Baptiste[2]
Elle apporte des biens estimés à 300 livres et un don du roi de 50 livres.[1]

Jean Mouflet dit Champagne, fils de Michel Mouflet et de Sébastienne Girard, résidant à Ste-Anne près Batiscan et originaire de la paroisse de Ste-Catherine du bourg de Mortaigne en l'évêché de Xaintes, épousa Anne Dodain, fille de Jacques Dodain et Marie Gauchère du bourg de Lois, Île de Ré, évêché de La Rochelle, le 19 août 1669 à Notre-Dame de Québec, [4] ayant reçu dispense de 2 bans de l'évêque de Petrée, en présence de François Trotain habitant de Batiscan, Louis Jean habitant de Champlain, et Bertrand Courtois, le prêtre célébrant étant le curé Henry de Bernières.[5]

Ils quittent la région de Batiscan et Ste-Anne avant décembre 1680, on les retrouve à Lachine dans le fief Verdun en 1681, où leur fils Louis fut baptisé le 6 décembre 1680:

Anne Dodin fut marraine de son petit-fils Étienne Chatouteau le 17 août 1687 à Lachine (Sts-Anges).[6]
C’est à Lachine que Jean Moufflet sera fait prisonnier par les Iroquois en date du 5 août 1689. Nous ignorons la date exacte de son décès.
Décédée entre le 22 février 1688 et le 25 février 1710. Son dernier enfant est né en 1688, le mariage de sa fille en 1710 la dit défunte. Un mariage précédent en 1700 ne la disait pas défunte, possiblement une simple omission du prêtre, fréquente pour les mères. Une possibilité existe qu'elle fut prise au massacre de Lachine en 1689. They entered into a marriage contract on 17 August 1669 before notary Romain Becquet:
Jean Mouflet dit Champagne, son of Michel Mouflet and of Sébastienne Girard, residing in Ste-Anne near Batiscan and originating in the parish of Ste-Catherine of the bourg of Mortaigne in the diocese of Xaintes, married Anne Dodain, daughter of Jacques Dodain and Marie Gauchère of the bourg of Lois, Île de Ré, diocese of La Rochelle, on 19 August 1669 in Notre-Dame de Québec, [4] having received dispensation of 2 bans from the bishop de Petrée, in the presence of François Trotain inhabitant of Batiscan, Louis Jean inhabitant of Champlain, and Bertrand Courtois, the priest celebrating being the curé Henry de Bernières.[5]

They left the area of Batiscan and Ste-Anne before December 1680, they are found in Lachine in the Verdun in 1681, where their son Louis was baptized on 6 December 1680.

Anne Dodin was godmother of her grandson Étienne Chatouteau on 17 August 1687 in Lachine (Sts-Anges).[6]
It was in Lachine that Jean Moufflet was taken prisonner by the Iroquois on 5 August 1689. We don't know the date of his death.
Death She died between 22 February 1688 and 25 February 1710.
NOTE on death: Her last child is baptized on 22 Feb 1688. Of the 3 known marriages of her children, the second is on 25 Oct 1700, where her husband is listed as deceased but she is not, the third on 25 Feb 1710, she and her husband are both so listed. There is no funeral record found for her under any name variation known. She does not appear as godmother or any other type of witness after the birth of her last child in the records. The list of victims of the Lachine massacre includes her as presumed taken/killed, the 1700 marriage could simply have omitted mention of her status.[6]
