John Craig Dodds, born on October 28, 1783, in Spartanburg, Spartanburg County, South Carolina, was the son of Francis James Dodds and Margaret (Craig) Dodds. His early years were rooted in South Carolina, where he grew up.
John Craig Dodds answered the call to serve his country during the War of 1812. He held the rank of Captain and was a part of the 14th Kentucky Militia (Mitchisson's) Regiment, demonstrating his dedication and bravery in defense of his nation.
