Hi Ann,

Thanks self-certifying for the Pre-1700 badge! Collaboration with Pre-1700 Project members is essential for those wishing to edit Pre-1700 profiles. Collaboration is essential because those ancestors are usually shared by many descendants.

It looks like the United States Project would be a good fit based on your branch of WikiTree. Review the project page to learn about resources and guidelines as well as how to collaborate with the project members.

Do you have any questions? Let me know by using the "reply" link under my comments or by clicking my name to visit my profile. From there you can leave a comment or send a private message. . I'm happy to help! :-)

Karen ~ Pre-1700 Greeter

Hi there A

Just checking in with you to see how it is going, I hope you found the   https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Category:New_Member_How-To   and links useful. We want to help you learn about the site and the community, so if or when you have questions, ask in our G2G forum https://www.wikitree.com/g2g/  or click REPLY below this message, to ask me

If you click your green tags it will show you member's who are also following that tag, if clicking the tag shows just your name then it may be circular and need to be done again.  Just use surnames or place names, no first names, you can have 20 tags. I notice you have no tags I would suggest you add one for your surname

DECLUE

DE_CLUE

Also, add tags for your mother and grandmother's maiden surnames to widen the connections into the community   You can also add tags for locations or interests - explore the project link for these.

Tags link you to the community sourcing & research options, to add more tags (you can have 20) go to  https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Special:Following - You can find more information about tags here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Tags

Have a look and explore https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:Projects  to see which project might be helpful for your research

Janet ~ Wikitree Messenger

PS. Please avoid the use of abbreviations as they can mean different things in different countries, always use the full words

PPS you might want to set your gender, this is done on the editing side of your profile

Hi Janet,

Its been awhile since you sent me the above note, but I'm writing today because I just received my DNA test results and I am tentative about linking them to my tree, although it looks like that is what I should do. I have not followed your suggestions about "tags" yet, but I guess I will in the next few days. I'm not quite understanding the privacy issues. If you have links for me to read, or words of encouragement, I look forward to hearing from you. Ann

Hi Ann,

Nice to hear from you and thanks for the question. If yu add your DNA to Wikitree it will take a day or two to populate your tree to show DNA connections. The following is the help page related to DNA: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:DNA .

This page looks at reasons for doing a test https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Help:DNA_Tests

Regarding tags I see you added these, if you click them they will show other members either with those names or following the names.

Hope this all helps

All the best Janet

Welcome A! :)

We are so glad to have you here! I want to thank you for becoming a Family Member of WikiTree, and welcome you to the WikiTree family, your contributions will go a long way to joining the world together. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.

I would suggest starting with the Member How-to pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.

I am here to answer any question you have, no matter how trivial you may think it is. There is no such thing as a silly question. Please add as much information as you can, it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site

Happy tree climbing
