Peter Dawson was born in the Colony of South Australia (1836-1900)

Peter Smith Dawson, singer, was born on 31 January 1882 in Adelaide, youngest of nine children of Thomas Dawson, ironworker and plumber, and his wife Alison, née Miller. ^[1][2] Peter attended the East Adelaide Primary School and Pulteney Street Grammar School, and was then apprenticed to his father.

Peter Dawson (bass-baritone)^[3] was also an autobiographer/memoirist and songwriter^[4]

In 1938 he recorded Waltzing Matilda on 78 RPM.^[5]

In 1905 Peter married Annie Mortimer Noble in Westminster, London, England. ^[6][7]

His wife, Annie, a soprano, had a stage name of "Annette George". Peter and Annie had no children and often toured together internationally until a serious car accident ended her public career.

Peter died on 22 Sep 1961 in Sydney, New South Wales, aged 79 years. He was buried at Rookwood Cemetery ( Presbyterian Section 5F ROW 23 grave 2196). ^[8][9]
