Frances Darcy was born the fifth daughter of Thomas Darcy, of Tolleshunt D'Arcy, Essex. About 1612, with a portion of £3000, she married Sir Henry Vane of Kent. [1] The marriage produced a large number of children: at least eight sons and five daughters. Several of the sons died young.
Her husband, Sir Henry Vane the elder, died in 1655 and was buried 1 June 1655 at St Giles, Shipbourne, Kent. [2] Shipborne, Kent, England Her son, Sir Henry Vane the younger, was executed in London, 1662, and was buried there on 15 June 1662. [3]
Lady Frances Vane "of Fayre Lawne" (Fairlawn, Kent) died 2 August 1662 and was buried 4 August 1663 at St Giles Shipbourne, Kent, where her husband and many of her children were previously interred. [4] The inscription on her gravestone reads: "Here lies the body of the Lady Frances Vane of Fairlawn, wife to the Right Honourable Sir Henry Vane, the elder, who lived with much modesty, prudence, and vertue all her days, and died with great Christian piety, the 2nd of August, in the 72nd year of her age."[5]
