Biography

Carmela d'Anna, daughter of Pasquale d'Anna and Gaetana Grasso, marries Calogero Milone, son of the late Antonino Milone and Antonina Bracco, on 12 April 1807.[1]

Calogero and Carmela have at least three children: Antonino (c. 1808), Leoluca (1813), and Vincenza (c. 1814).

Antonino is born around 1808, based on his reported age in the 1834 census.

Leoluca is born and baptized 4 August 1813. His godparents are Salvatore and Margherita Maringo, a married couple.[2]

I estimate Vincenza is born around 1814, twenty years before she marries.

Antonino marries Anna Felicia Castro on 28 April 1833. It is the first marriage for either of them, and their parents are all living at this time.[3]

Vincenza marries Biagio Mangano on 23 November 1834. Carmela has died by this time.[4]

During the cholera epidemic of 1837, rumors spread by Republicans, who are opposed to the Bourbon king, that the king is poisoning the populace with cholera. On 21 July, an angry mob kills four men. One of the aggressors of this mob is Leoluca Milone. For his part, he is executed.[5]

Leoluca dies 2 August 1837. His age, and parents' names, are not recorded.[6]

The priest and historian, Don Giovanni Colletto, calls Leoluca the 23 year old son (b. 1814) of Michaelangelo. There is no other Leoluca Milone born close to 1814, based on the indices of baptisms from 1810-19.

Death

Carmela dies at the reported age of 40 in August 1834 after receiving last rites.C Calogero survives her.[7]
