Josiah Crocker of Taunton was an officer during the Revolutionary War, serving as 1st Lieutenant in Capt. Samuel Fales's 1st Matross company, Brig. Gen. George Godfrey's brigade in 1776, and as Lieutenant in Capt. Fales's Taunton company of matrosses, Col. George Williams's regiment, Gen. Godfrey's brigade, marching to Slade's Ferry in Swanzey, R.I., on the alarm of Dec. 8, 1776, and as a Captain in Col. Thomas Carpenter's Bristol County regiment in 1778 on expedition to Rhode Island, and as Captain of a Matross company, Brig. Gen. Godfrey's brigade in 1780, marching to Tiverton, R.I., on the alarm of Aug. 2, 1780. [1] [2] [3] [4]

Josiah Crocker was born on October 30, 1742 in Taunton, Bristol County, Province of Massachusetts Bay, son of Josiah Crocker (1719–1774) and Rebecca Allen (1720–1759).

Josiah (22) and Abigail Leonard (22) were married in 1765.

Abigail was born on May 19, 1742 in Raynham, Bristol, Massachusetts Bay Colony. She was the daughter of Zephaniah Leonard and Hannah (King) Leonard. [5]

  2. William Augustus Crocker, b. 1774,[5] d. Sept. 20, 1805.[5]
  3. Rebecca Crocker, b. 1776, d.y.[5]
  4. Josiah Crocker, b. 1778, d.y.[5]

His wife Abigail died in 1800. [5]

Josiah died on February 24, 1808 in Taunton, Massachusetts, United States, aged 65. [5]

He was buried in Plain Cemetery, Taunton, Massachusetts. [7]
