Biography

This profile is a collaborative work-in-progress. Can you contribute information or sources to confirm the parentage of Silas Crispin or the marriages of his father Capt. William Crispin?"

Notes

I have no documentation to confirm that the mother of Silas Crispin was Anne. There are other accounts that state the mother of Silas to be Rebecca Bradshaw. The information I have found state Capt. William Penn was married at least twice.

Carol Lillevang asked a question on Wikitree G2G which gives interesting information.

"....wrong information about who his wife is/was, which error came from a a book by Rev. William Frost Crispin published in 1901 with the long title/shortened of Captain William Crispin of the British Navy . . . This erroneous information has been picked up and copied by many genealogists over the years but is nevertheless erroneous. Rev. Crispin gives William Crispin's first wife as Anne Jasper and didn't supply any authority for this. However there is support that William Crispin's first wife was Rebecca Penn Bradshaw, who was William Penn's aunt, etc. as Crispin claimed Anne Jasper was. This support includes: (1) The portion of the English census for Lancashire county conducted in 1664-65 by Sir William Dougdale, one of two Kings of Arms for this county, whose report includes his genealogy of the Bradshaw family; (2) William Penn's Will in which he lists "my two nephews James Bradshaw and George Markham", and (3) the naming of this couple's children which reflect family names in the Bradshaw family."

A freespace page has been started to discuss this issue: Wives of Captain Crispin. Can you help with more documentation? Www.familysearch

What was the source for the information that Anne's father is William Jasper? There is a pending merge for her that say her father is John Jasper. They can't both be correct, so let's compare the sources of the info to see which is more reliable.

Crispin-44 and Jasper-332 are not ready to be merged because: Disputed father must be resolved with sourced citation for evidence. Entire finished profile requires sources.

Jean, please add citations from the sources from which you got the information to create this profile. The profile uploaded with a citation saying you were alive to witness this birth in 1628 & death in 1660.

Please change the Last Name at Birth to Jasper. It was mistakenly set to Crispin, the surname of her husband.

Crispin-44 and Jasper-332 appear to represent the same person because: Ann (Jasper) Crispin; wife of William Crispin (Commissioner for Wm. Penn), mother of Silas & Rebecca. Ann & Margaret's father was John Jasper (is there a source to support William?). Should be merged into Jasper-332 to match last name at birth
