Biography

Ethel was born in about 1877 in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England. She was the daughter of William Henry Cranstone and Martha (Haughton) Cranstone.^[1] Ethel's birth was registered in the Oct-Nov-Dec quarter of 1876 in the H. Hempstead district.^[2]

In the 1881 census Ethel (age about 4) was living in Hemel Hempstead, Hertfordshire, England. Relationship to Head: Daughter.^[1]

In the 1891 census Ethel (age 14), Scholar, was in Winscombe, Axbridge, Somerset, England.^[3]

Ethel then moved to Mount School in August 1891 in York, Yorkshire, England. Both this and Sidcot where she was before were run but the Society of Friends. ^[4]

Ethel married Ernest Green on 8 January 1903. Their marriage was announced in The Belfast News-Letter on Saturday 10th January 1903. The announcement read as follows;

GREEN-CRANSTONE - January 8, at Friends' Meeting-house, Hemel-Hempstead, Ernest, son of William John Green, Lakeside, Lurgan to Ethel, second daughter of William Henry Cranstone, Hemel-Hempstead, Herts. No cards. ^[5]

Their marriage was registered in the Jan-Feb-Mar quarter of 1903 in the Luton district. They had a son, RonaldFrank in about 1905. ^[6]

In the 1911 census Ethel (age 34) was the wife of Ernest Green in Lurgan, Armagh, Ireland.^[7]

Ethel died on 20 September 1958 in Belfast and her estate passed probate on 27 May 1959 in Belfast.^[8]
