Biography
William Cooper was born to Marcome and Sarah (Jackson) Cooper about 1787

in Nash County, North Carolina, United States. His father was a significant planter, having 1,836 acres and eight slaves in 1810.

He married Margaret "Peggy" Pridgen before 1808 -- based on having two children in the 1810 census -- and moved next door to Peggy's parents. Peggy's father David Pridgen was also a prosperous planter.

Little J.B, who was dead at the time of writing the will and left no heirs.
Slaves
William already had four slaves by 1810

and inherited land when his father died in 1811. By 1820 the family had grown to 10 plus 9 slaves;

in 1830 there were 13 in the family and 18 slaves;

but by 1840 the oldest children were moving away, there were 10 in the family and 22 slaves.

At his death, he owned 27 slaves.
