Biography

Giovanni Collura is born 21 February 1885 in Corleone and baptized the next day. He is the son of Giuseppe Collura and Maria Ligotino. His godparents are Paolo Bruno and Brigitta, his unmarried sister.^[1]

He appears on the manifest of the SS Liguria, departing Palermo on 24 September 1908, and arriving at the Port of New Orleans on 13 October.^[2]

According to this record, Giovanni is 23 years old (b. 1885), a single, illiterate farm laborer. His father is still living.

Giovanni is traveling with his brother, Vincenzo's wife, Giuseppa Governali, age 21. They are going to join Vincenzo in Ramos, LA, who paid for their passage. Giovanni is 5 feet 9 inches tall, with a dark complexion and chestnut hair.
