Biography

Elizabeth was born in 1704 to Samuel Coate and Mary (Saunders) Coate.

With her recently widowed mother she transferred her membership on August 6, 1723 from Burlington Monthly Meeting, New Jersey to Buckingham Monthly Meeting in Bucks County Pennsylvania^[1]. The following year she and Griffith Davis declared their intentions of marriage and were granted permission by the meeting for the wedding to be consummated at the home of her mother, referred to as "Widow Coate."^[2]

Elizabeth and Griffith had nine children. She died eight years after the birth of their youngest child, on March 3, 1769.
