I’m conducting the 6-month check in for the US Black Heritage Project. Because we are growing so fast, it’s not always possible for me to see what everyone’s working on.
I’d love to hear what you’ve been working on and if you are still happy being a part of the Slavery Team. Members can change teams at any time. If you need something to work on, we now have a master task list here: https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Space:US_Black_Heritage_Project_Tasklist
We now have a project badge! Hooray! As soon as I hear back from you that you’d like to continue with the project, I will add the badge to your profile.
I look forward to hearing from you,
Emma
A year ago, I came across baptism records on FamilySearch for a church in Union Co., Kentucky that included baptisms for slaves. It included their given names, parents' names, slave owners' names and often had birth dates. I entered all of the slave baptisms into Excel and soon realized that when I sorted by mother's name and slave owner I had a bunch of family groups. That allowed me to find many of the families living together in the 1870 and 1880 censuses.
I have entered most of the families that I found in the census into FamilySearch. Now I'm starting to enter them into WikiTree. It takes a long time to enter everything into WikiTree (B/M/D records, baptism records, property deeds & probate records), but I love the fact that I can create links between the slaves and the slave owners.

Thanks for taking responsibility for the Orphaned Profiles. It looks like you are already doing the things recommended by the After Adopting Orphans FAQ. We really appreciate you becoming the caretaker of profiles!

P.S. To find reliable sources for your profiles, go to the Family Tree & Tools tab; select Genealogy Research and scroll down near the bottom of that list and select Research with RootsSearch. There are over 20 websites to access from there.
I noticed your interest in African-American genealogy. We have a project here at WikiTree called US Black Heritage Project and we'd love to have you join and collaborate with us. Thank you for upgrading. I am pleased to welcome you as a member of the WikiTree family. Your contributions will go a long way to joining the world’s trees together.
I would suggest starting with the New Member How-To pages, they will save you a lot of time and frustration.
Please add as much information as you can, with sources, as it all helps to turn a “name” back into a person. I hope you enjoy the site as much as I do.
Thank you for adding your DNA to WikiTree. Getting the Best from DNA will tell you more about how DNA kits are used on WikiTree.
Have fun collaborating on your ancestors
