Biography

Rufus was born in 1867, the son of David Chitwood and Nancy Campbell.^[1][2] His siblings included:

Rufus married Ollie J. Strunk (1873-1944), the daughter of Henry B. Strunk and Elizabeth King, marrying in Scott County on December 28, 1890.^[3] Their children included:

They returned in Kentucky, living alongside Ollie's siblings in the East Pine area of Whitley County in 1900, while Rufus worked as a coal miner.^[4] In 1910, they lived in Strunks, Kentucky, also in Whitley County.^[5] In 1920, Strunk Precinct 121 was enumerated in McCreary County.^[6]

His wife passed away in 1940; that year, residing in Corbin, Kentucky, Rufus, at the age of 72, no longer worked.^[7] He passed away at the age of 78^[8] and is buried at Corinth Cemetery in Corbin, Kentucky.^[9]
