Marthe married twice: Valentin Devin and Jean Gregoire Volant (30 Jan 1736 in Mobile Alabama Post, Nouvelle-France). She was listed deceased when her daughter Catherine married Jean Baptiste Thibeaut Guetelin 20 April 1762. [1][2]

    Jean Gregoire Volant,1 lieutenant, commandant of a Swiss troop at Mobile, son of deceased Jean Volant, master of waters and forests (a governmental post), and of deceased Marie Ursule de Karer (Karrer) of (Landser?)2 in upper Alsace, Diocese of Strasbourg.
    Marthe Chauvin, widow of Valentin Devin, (second?) engineer, daughter of deceased Jacques Chauvin and of Marie Anne Lavergne.
    Witnesses named: De Beauchamp, major; De Lalande, guardian of the king's storehouse; Dubreüil; Dame Le Sueur de Bauchamps (Marie Le Sueur).
    Witnesses signing: (Jean Jadart) de Bauchamps; (Charles) de Lalande; (Vincent Jolin dit) Dubreüil.
    1. Word of his commission as captain-lieutenant on November 23, 1735, had not yet reached him. SHAT, Vincennes, carton X987, List of officers, Karrer's Regiment, n.d. Called a native of Basle, he had begun service as a cadet in Karrer's regiment in 1723. Volant came to Louisiana in 1731 from Rochefort. That year, he was made lieutenant en second; in 1734 he became lieutenant en pied, and in 1735 captain-lieutenant. He was commissioned as captain in 1747 and given command of the Fourth Company of Karrer's Swiss Regiment.     Volant's mother may have been related to the Karrer family, two of whom were commandants of the Regiment of Swiss Guards.
