Newspaper clipping of obituary, reads as follows:
"Earthly career comes to close. After completing his four-score years, he yields his spirit to his creator.
Thomas Chandler died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. John Leland, Sunday evening at 7 o'clock. His last illness lasting about one week caused, no doubt, from a fall he received which severely injured his lower limbs. His health has been on the decline for many years and some four years ago he became blind. He was a native of Ohio, and has passed the 80th milestone of his age. He came to Fremont County in 1856 and settled in Madison township where he retained his residence during all the intervening years.
He, like all the early settlers, experienced the dangers and privations incident to pioneer life (making) the story of those days more and more interesting as the cycle of time wings its flight. he was a member of the M.E. Church for many years, but lately embraced the doctrine of Christian Science. His funeral was held this afternoon at the home of John Leland in Madison Township, the sermon being preached by Rev. Mott Mitchell, pastor of the M.E. Church of this city. At the close of these exercises, interment was made in the Mt. Olive Cemetery where many of his old associates now repose and where they rest from their labors and their works do follow them.'
