Biography

“Gawin Castleye and Jenat Holme of Rosgill” were married at Shap, Westmorland, England on 30 Jul 1587.[1]

Gawin and Jenat Castley had 5 children born at Rosgill and baptised at Shap.

  • James on 17 Sep 1587[2]
  • Rychard on 11 Mar 1590/91[3]
  • Elzabeth on 17 Feb1594[4]
  • William on 28 Nov 1596 [5] and was buried on 8 Feb 1596[6]
  • Jane on 9 Apr 1598[7]

Gawin Castley moved from Rosgill in Shap within the next few years after Jane was born, as he was “of Kendal” when mentioned in the Inventory of Robert Castley which was made 4 Jan 1601.

Jennett Castley, wife of Gawin, of Branthwait-browe was buried 3 Apr 1615 at Kendal, Westmorland, England.[8]

Gawin Castley of Markettplace was buried in Kendal, Westmorland on 4 Jan 1626/27.[9]
