Biography

Mary Castle, daughter of Richard Castle (Maria filia Richardi Castell), was baptized 4 April 1624 in Stratford On Avon, Warwickshire, England.^[1][2][3]

Mary married Richard Gale on 16 July 1640 in Watertown, Massachusetts Bay Colony (now Middlesex County)^[4][5] They had the following children:

• Sarah, born 8 September 1641, was the wife of Joseph Garfield and was named in hier father's will^[6] NOTE: she is the only child of Richard and Mary for whom a birth record was found
• Abraham, named in his father's will as "Abram", was born c. 1643 and married Sarah Fiske^[6]
• Mary, wife of John Flagg, was named in her father's will^[6]
• John, who was named in his fathers will, married Elizabeth Spring^[6]
• Ephraim, who likely predeceased his father, was in 1673 a vagrant who was "distempered in his mind," according to the court files^[6]

"My well beloved wife" was mentioned in her husband's will dated 25 February 1678. Also named in Richard's will were the following children: Abraham, John, Sara Garfield, Mary Flagg. Son Abraham's two eldest sons, Abraham and Richard, were also named.^[6]

Mary Geale, wife of Richard Geale, died in Watertown on 2 August 1681.^[7][8]
