Biography

Ciro Cascio is a Corleone native resident, the son of Stefano Cascio and Lucia Colletto. I estimate he is 20 years old (b. 1761) when he marries.

Giuseppe Maria is born 4 August 1781 and baptized the next day, named after his maternal grandfather. Although his parents are called a married couple in this record, they have not yet wed. Giuseppe's godparents are Innocenzo Saccaro and Gioachina Messina, who are both unmarried.[1]

Two months after their son is born, Ciro marries Brigitta Massanobile, a widow, on 22 October 1781. Stefano is living ,and Lucia has died by this time.

Ciro and Brigitta have at least six children: Giuseppe (1781), Lucia (1783), Clara (1787), Leoluca (1788), Salvatore (1791), and Salvatrice (c. 1792). I have estimated Brigitta and Ciro are 20 years old when their first known child is born.

Lucia is born and baptized 15 December 1783, named after her paternal grandmother. Her godparents are Matteo Saccaro and Giovanna Traina, who is unmarried.[2]

Clara is born and baptized 8 January 1787. Her godparents are Santo Puma, who is unmarried, and Oliva, wife of Vincenzo Ligutino.[3]

The death record for Carmela Maria, infant daughter of Ciro and Brigitta, on 11 August 1787, is probably Clara's.[4] She would be seven months old.

Leoluca is born 10 June 1788 and baptized the next day. His godparents are Gioachino and Francesca Rizzuto, mother and son.[5]

Salvatore is born and baptized 10 November 1791. His godparents are Gaetano and Antonia Trapani, a married couple.

Salvatrice is born around 1792, based on her reported age in 1807.

Lucia dies 13 September 1793 at nine years of age.[6]

Ciro dies by 1795, when Brigitta remarries, to Ignacio Sanfilippo, widower of Salvatrice Castro.

Brigitta and Ciro have both died by the 1807 stato delle anime. Three of their children---Giuseppe, reportedly age 23 (he is 26), Leoluca, 19 (b. 1788), and Salvatrice, 15 (b. 1792)---live together in "la vanella" (an alley) before the cortile di Pellegrino, in Corleone.

Giuseppe marries Giuseppa Saccaro, a neighbor in la vanella, on 29 January 1809.

Salvatrice marries Antonino Cosentino on 25 January 1813.

Leoluca marries for the first time a month later, to Maria Puccio, on 28 February.

Ciro's stepdaughter, Maria, marries Antonino Gennaro at an unknown date, probably before the 1807 stato. Maria dies at around age 37 (b. 1780) on 23 October 1817.

Leoluca is a widower in 1838 when he remarries to a fellow widow, Gaetana Saccaro, the sister of Giuseppa, Giuseppe's wife, on 21 May.

Salvatrice dies, reportedly at age 50 (she is around 54) on 5 February 1846, the widow of Antonino.

Giuseppe dies, reportedly at age 71 (he is around 70) on 30 April 1854. He is survived by his wife, Giuseppa.

Leoluca dies, reportedly at age 80 (he is around 78) on 19 October 1866. He is survived by his second wife, Gaetana.
