Biography

Rosario Cascio is born around 1794 in Corleone, the son of Leoluca lo Cascio and Bernarda di Frisco. I have estimated Rosario is two years older than he is reported to be in 1807. At that time, he and an older sister live with their widowed mother. Their youngest sister, Leoluchina, is born in 1795. Her baptismal record indicates that their father has died. Since she must be the youngest of Leoluca's children, her older siblings must have been born in 1794 and earlier.

In 1807, Rosario and his older sister, Vita, and their widowed mother, Bernarda, appear in the stato delle anime, living above Favaloro's garden. Bernarda remarries that August.

Rosario marries Antonina di Leo, a widow on 26 November 1834. Bernarda is still living.

Rosario and Antonina stand as godparents to Angelo, who is born of unknown parents and baptized on 21 April 1837. Antonina takes the infant in and sustains him, in the home of Salvatore di Bella, in the San Lorenzo quarter of Corleone.

Rosario and Antonina have at least two children together: Leoluca (1846) and Lucia (1847).

Leoluca is born and baptized 27 October 1846. His godparents are Bernardo and Francesca Manicchia, mother and son. He dies at two days of age.

Lucia is born and baptized on 12 December 1847. Her godparents are Paulino Conglio and Francesca di Gregorio.

Lucia dies on 7 October 1848 at ten months of age.

Rosario dies, reportedly at age 60 (probably more like 63) on 15 February 1859. He receives last rites in the hospital where he dies. His mother has died by this time. His wife survives him.

Antonina dies at age 76 (b. 1798) on 23 March 1874.
