Biography

Maestro Francesco Cascio is is first baptized at 9AM by the midwife, due to the danger of death. He survives to be baptized again by the priest later that day, 10 March 1795. He is the son of Maestro Antonino lo Cascio and Antonia Giantoni. Francesco is named after his paternal grandfather, as is traditional for the oldest son.

In 1807 Francesco, 12 (b. 1795), lives in the home of his father, Maestro Antonino, 31 (b. 1776), mother Antonina, 30 (b. 1777), and siblings Giuseppa, 14 (b. 1793), Carmelo, 7 (b. 1800), Salvatore, 5 (b. 1802), and Rosa, 2 (b. 1805), on the Vallone.

His brothers, who are also maestri, are carpenters. Maestro Francesco and his father are most likely in the same profession.

First Marriage, to Concetta Inserra

He marries his first wife, Concetta Inserra, on 7 January 1816. His parents are both still living at this time.

Francesco and Concetta have at least ten children: Antonino (1816), Antonino Leoluca (1817), Giuseppa Maria (1819), two sons named Carmelo (1821 and 1833), Maria Antonia (1823), Liboria (1824), Anna Maria (1826), Vita (1827), and Giuseppe (1830).

Antonino is born and baptized 26 December 1816, named after his paternal grandfather. His godparents are Don Giovanni Catinella and Giuseppa Bordonaro, wife of Maestro Giuseppe. He dies the day after his birth.

Antonino Leoluca is born and baptized 1 March 1818. His godparents are Maestro Teodoro and Biagia Guarneri, a married couple. At his death, he is known as Brother Nicolo'.

Giuseppa dies on 5 December 1820 at a year and three months of age. This record calls her Giuseppe, infant son of Francesco and Concetta.

The first son named Carmelo, after his paternal uncle, is born and baptized on 30 December 1821. His godparents are Don Francesco and Donna Francesca Paola Lampo, a married couple.

Carmelo dies on 17 January 1822 at eighteen days of age.

Maria Antonia is born and baptized on 27 May 1823. Her godparents are Don Salvatore and Donna Biagia Destro, brother and sister.

Liboria is born and baptized on 26 December 1824, named after her maternal grandmother. Maestro Francesco's title is not included in this baptismal record. Liboria's godparents are the Marquis Don Francesco and Donna Castrenza Orlando, a married couple.

Liboria dies on 31 July 1825 at seven months of age.

Anna Maria is born and baptized on 12 May 1826. Her godparents are Don Carmelo and Donna Carmela Riazza, father and daughter.

She dies on 25 August, at three months of age.

Vita is born and baptized on 28 September 1827. Her godparents are Don Catelus and Donna Vincenza Firmaturi, Marquis and Marchioness of Chiozi, and a married couple from Corleone.

Giuseppe is born and baptized 26 November 1830. His godparents are Placido and Apollonia Paternostro, a married couple.

The second son named Carmelo is born and baptized on 16 February 1833. His godparents are Maestro Giovanni and Carmela Zangara, a married couple.

Carmelo dies at three days of age.

Concetta dies, reportedly at age 28 (b. 1805) on 21 March 1833.

Second Marriage, to Giuseppa di Mattia

Francesco remarries, to Giuseppa di Mattia, on 10 February 1834. Francesco's parents are still living at this time.

The 1834 Church census, the stato delle anime, captures ’’Maestro’’ Francesco, 40 (b. 1794), his new wife Giuseppa, 22 (b. 1812), and Francesco's children from his first marriage living on the strada di Bruno, between the Portico di Migrine and the Pianitto, somewhere in the SW quarter, near San Agostino. His neighbors are all either maestri or styled don(na). The children are Maria Antonia, 11 (b. 1823), Antonino, 17 (b. 1818), Vita, (whose age is not given, is 7, b. 1827), and Giuseppe, 4 (b. 1830),

Maria Antonia marries Maestro Giovanni Nuccio on 15 November 1853.

Giuseppe marries twice, for the first time to Giuseppa Vita Maria Cottone, on 11 February 1861. According to this record, Giuseppe's father has died, and his mother is still living, but in fact the reverse is true.

Death of Francesco

Maestro Francesco dies at age 67 (b. 1795) on 18 July 1862. He is survived by his second wife, Giuseppa.

Giuseppe remarries, to Serafina Vitale, on 22 January 1866. By this time, both Francesco and Concetta have passed away.

Vita dies, reportedly at age 46 (she is 43) on 25 September 1870. She is the widow of Leoluca Cardella.

Maria Antonia dies at age 49 (b. 1823) on 23 November 1872. She is survived by her husband, Giovanni.

Giuseppe and Serafina have at least four children. Serafina dies in 1877.

Giuseppe's oldest son, Brother Nicolo', known in secular life as Antonio, of the Saint Augustine Order, dies at age 62 on 26 August 1879.

Giuseppe marries for the third time, to Francesca Citrano, who is also a widow, on 29 June 1880.

He dies at age 70 in 1900.
