Biography

Leoluchina Cascio is born and baptized on 8 May 1867, daughter of Girolamo Cascio and Maria Pecorino. Her godparents are Leoluca di Miceli and Vincenza Marsalisi.

In March 1886 at age 18, she publishes her intent to wed Cipriano Maniscalco, a 27 year old peasant of unknown parents.

What happens to Cipriano after this is unknown, but it seems they either parted or he passed away soon after their marriage banns were published, because in October of the same year (in the civil record; on 27 November in the Church), at age 19, Leoluchina marries Giuseppe Di Miceli, a 26 year old bricklayer. Leoluchina's parents are still living at this time.

Leoluchina and Giuseppe have at least five children: Lucia (1888), two sons named Vincenzo (1890 and 1892), Girolamo (1895), and Gaetano (1898).

Lucia is born in Corleone on 18 January 1888 and baptized on 21 January. Her godparents are Leoluca Piazza and Pasqua Ajello.

Lucia dies at eight months of age on 24 September 1888.

The first son named Vincenzo, after his paternal grandfather, is born 2 January 1890 and baptized five days later. His godparents are Costantino Lombardo and Lucia Frisella, a married couple.^[1]

He is presumed to have died before his brother is born in 1892.

It appears the di Miceli family either visit or immigrate to New York, at least temporarily, where their second son, also named Vincenzo, is baptized in 1892. In among the San Martino records from Corleone is a Certificato di Battesimo, mailed to them from Chiesa della Madonna del Carmine, 447 East 115th Street, New York, USA. It certifies that Vincenzo was born 26 October 1892 and baptized 8 November 1892. His godparents are Michele Califfo and Marietta Recuo.

The records that follow all indicate Corleone births and baptisms, suggesting the family was only living in New York temporarily.

Their son, Girolamo is born 28 March 1895 and baptized on 9 April. Godparents are Giovanni La Terro and Vincenza Tortorici.

The next year, the Di Micelis stand as godparents to Giovanna Cascio, daughter of Antonino Cascio and Caterina Ragusa.

Their son Gaetano is born 27 November 1898 and baptized 4 December. His godparents are Leoluca Piazza and Pasqua Aiello.
