Leoluca Cascio is born 30 January 1870 in Corleone and baptized the following day. He is the son of Girolamo Cascio and Maria Felicia Pecorino. His godfather is Giuseppe Cardella.[1] His godfather may be Giuseppe Cardella, born in 1856, who marries Leoluca's third cousin, Biagia Grizzaffi, in 1885.
According to the birth date given on Leoluca's Find A Grave profile page, he was born on 2 February 1873. There is not a baptism matching that date in the records for Corleone. Cascio-10 14:35, 24 January 2019 (UTC)
Leoluca marries Caroline "Catherine" Pecorino, daughter of Giovanni "John" Pecorino and Pasqua "Lena" Gagliano.[2] According to her biography on Find A Grave, Caroline is called "Catherine."[3] She is called Catherine in most census records.
Leoluca and Caroline have at least seven children:[3] Mary (c. 1903), Lena/Lillian (c. 1907), John (c. 1911), Rosa (c. 1914), Josephine (c. 1916), Joseph V. (c. 1920), and Rose Annette (c. 1923).
The elder daughter named Rosa dies at age 5 (b. 1914), on 8 February 1919 in Lake Charles, LA.[4]
In the 1920 federal census of Lake Charles City, Louisiana, taken 16 January, Luke Cascio heads a household at 1025 Mill St. He owns his home. He is 49 (b. 1870). He immigrated in 1899 and filed intent to naturalize in 1913. His wife Catherine is 34 (b. 1885) and immigrated in 1889. Their children at home are Mary, 16 (b. 1903), Lena, 12 (b. 1907), John, 8 (b. 1911), and Josephine, 3 years and 10 months (b. Mar 1916). Luke and Catherine were born in Italy and their children in Louisiana. Luke is a grocery store merchant working on his own account.[5]
Lillian Cascio, age 18 (b. 1908), resident of Lake Charles, daughter of Luke Cascio and Catherine Cascio, both living in Lake Charles, marries Fred Eugene Janney, age 21, on 11 February 1926.[6]
In the 1930 census of Lake Charles City, Calcasieu County, Louisiana, taken 11 April, Luke Cascio heads a household. He is 59 (b. 1871), married at age 28 (m. 1899) to Catherine P., who is 44 (b. 1886) and was 17 at marriage. At home are their daughters Mary, 26 (b. 1904), and Lillian C. Janny, 21 (b. 1909), and a widow, and Luke’s granddaughter, Bonnie, 2 yrs 11 mos. (b. 1927); and more of Luke’s children: John, 16 (b. 1914), Josephine, 13 (b. 1917), Joseph V. 10. (b. 1920), and Rose A., 6 yrs 5 mos. (b. Dec 1923). Luke and his wife were born in Italy. He immigrated in 1902 and she in 1885. They are naturalized citizens. Their children were born in Louisiana. Bonnie’s parents were both born in Louisiana. Luke is a farmer; Mary is a clothing store clerk; John is a helper on the farm.[7]
In the 1940 federal census of Lake Charles, Calcasieu, LA, taken 13 May, Luke Cascio heads a household at 514 Louisiana Ave. He owns his home, worth $800. He is 68 years old (b. 1872). His wife, Catherine, is 53 (b. 1887). Their children at home are Josephine, 22 (b. 1918), Joseph V., 20 (b. 1920), and Rose Annette, 16 (b. 1924). Luke and Catherine were born in Italy and their children were born in Louisiana. The only one employed is Joseph V., an apprentice carpenter for a building construction company.[8]
Leo Luke dies on 26 September 1940[2][9][10], reportedly at age 67. (He is 70.) The record of his death calls his parents "James Cascio and Maria Picorino" and identifies his wife by her married name.[9]
Catherine dies on 9 March 1980. She and her husband are buried in Orange Grove Cemetery in Lake Charles, Calcasieu Parish, Louisiana.[3]
