Biography

Apollonia Cascio is born and baptized 28 October 1828. She is the daughter of Leoluca Cascio and Maria Puccio. Her godparents are Don Alessandro Catinella and Anna, wife of Gioachino Ragusa.

Maria dies by 1838, when Apollonia is ten years old. Her father, Leoluca, remarries that year.

Apollonia marries twice, first when she is sixteen. Apollonia marries Antonino Ciavarello, a farmer, on 13 July 1845. They have at least seven children together: two daughters named Giuseppa (1846 and 1851), Pasquale (1847), Maria (1857), Giovanni (c. 1859), and Leoluca (1860). Their first two children are named after Antonino's parents, as is traditional.

The first daughter named Giuseppa dies on 22 August 1846 at two months of age.

Pasquale is born in his parents' home in via S. Elena, Corleone on 14 October 1847. His civil birth record gives his parents' ages. Apollonia is recorded here with the surname Castro, age 18.

The second daughter named Giuseppa is born 15 February 1851 at the same address. Antonino, age 28 (b. 1822), agricola, reports her birth. Her mother is Apollonia Cascio, age 24 (b. 1826). She is baptized the next day. Her godparents are her maternal uncle Giuseppe Cascio and his wife, Vincenza d'Anna (recorded erroneously as d'Antoni).

Maria is born at the same address on 20 July 1857. Both her baptismal record and civil birth record give her mother's surname as Cascio. Antonino reports the birth, and gives Apollonia's age again as only 24 (b. 1833). She is baptized Mariam the same day. Her godparents are Lucianus Cortimiglia and Lucia Gammanta, a married couple.

Giovanni's birth date is not yet known. I have estimated he is 20 when he marries.

Leoluca is born and baptized Leonemlucam on 15 August 1860, named after his maternal grandfather. His godparents are Giuseppe Gennaro and Maria di Puma, a married couple.

Antonino dies in his home on via S. Elena at age 40 on 26 March 1861.

Leoluca dies on 21 June 1861 at ten months of age.

Pasquale marries Carmela Palazzo, his third cousin, on 10 February 1872.

On the same day, Apollonia marries Carmela's brother, Francesco Palazzo, her second cousin, once removed.

Pasquale dies 25 July 1873.

Giovanni marries Nicolina Finocchio on 13 October 1879.

The surviving Giuseppa marries Antonino Marino on 8 September 1886.

Maria marries Giuseppe Mondello on 22 September 1887.
