Biography

Genevieve Carriere was the daughter of Joseph Carriere and Marie Louise Lavergne. She was probably born in Louisiana, New Spain, about 1770, as suggested by her age of seven years in the 1777 census at Opelousas Post.^[1]

She married Philip LaCase, son of Charles LaCase and Felicite Langlois, on 17 September 1793 at St. Landry Catholic Church in Opelousas. Witnesses were Pierre Carriere, Francisco Milani, and Antoine Langlois. Father Pedro de Zamora presided.^[2]

Genevieve and Philip had eight known children, all born in Opelousas:

Genevieve was widowed when Philip died about 1822.^[3] She died in Opelousas about 18 April 1830, when she was buried at the St. Landry Catholic Church Cemetery.^[4] Her succession was filed on 1 May 1830 at the Opelousas courthouse.^[5]
