Biography

Charles Campbell is a member of Clan Campbell.

Charles Campbell migrated from Scotland to New Zealand.

Charles was born in 1869 in Glasgow.

He married Maria Wenzlick who had been widowed in 1908 when her husband, Benjamin Caserotti, died.

He passed away in 1922.^[1] He died as a result of an accident at the Cement works in Warkworth. Charles was initially admitted to Warkworth Hospital but was then sent by steamer to Auckland District Hospital, where he eventually succumbed to his injuries. He was 52 years old.

The New Zealand Herald had the following on the accident:

THE WARKWORTH FIRE.

WORKMAN SERIOUSLY HURT. A serious accident occurred to a married man, Mr. C. Campbell, aged 58, at the fire at the Wilsons (N.Z.) Portland Cement Company's works at Warkworth on Tuesday morning. Mr. Campbell was engaged in helping to remove the debris when the portion of the building on which he was standing collapsed, causing him to fall a distance of 45ft. He was later admitted to the Warkworth Hospital. Yesterday he was brought to Auckland by the steamer Mahurangi, being admitted to the district hospital on arrival in the evening. He is suffering from severe burns and injury to the spine. A total of 90 men have been paid off as a result of the fire.

Charles was buried at Waikaraka Cemetery in Auckland.
