George L Callin was the son of Thomas Callin and Susan Egner, born on 10 Nov 1860 in Olivesburg, Richland County, Ohio, and raised in Weller Township.[1][2][3]
George married Catherine Bell "Katie" Imhoff on 28 July 1888 in Richland County, Ohio. Katie was born on 4 Feb 1868 in Olivesburg, Richland County, Ohio. We don’t know who her parents were. Two-year-old Katie Imhoff appeared in the household of Charles and Catherine Reckard in Milton Township on the 1870 Census. (There is a 56-year-old Catherine Imhoff listed on that same page of the census in a household with Mary A (26) and Theodosia (19). Their possible connection to 2-year-old Katie remains unknown.)[4][5]
George L Callin and Catherine Bell "Katie" Imhoff had the following children:
George and Katie raised their family, including Katie’s son from a previous relationship, Ralph Ryland (1885–1979), in Mansfield. George died there unexpectedly on 21 Jan 1917 at age 56. He was buried in Mansfield Cemetery. His obituary ran in the Mansfield News-Journal on 22 Jan 1917.[12][13][14][15][16]
“DEATH COMES QUICKLY
“George L. Callin Is Victim of Apoplexy Last Evening.
“George L. Callin, of 26 Pleasant avenue, driver for the Albert F. Remy company, died very suddenly at his home last evening, following an attack of heart trouble and a stroke of apoplexy. Until Saturday afternoon, Mr. Callin had apparently been in good health. He became ill for a short time while at the Baltimore & Ohio freight depot. Sunday, he went out several times during the day and did not complain very much. In the evening, however, he was not feeling very well and went to bed early. About 9 o'clock, he arose and told his wife that he was going down stairs to sit in a chair for awhile as he had severe pains in his head. About 11 o'clock, Mrs. Callin heard a noise of someone falling. She made an investigation and found her husband lying on the floor unconscious. She summoned her son, but he had breathed only a few times and expired. A physician was summoned, and later Coroner LeBarre also was called. Mr. Callin was born at Olivesburg, Nov. 1, 1860, and is survived by his wife, three sons, Jefferson, Trell and Leo, and a daughter, Ruth. Two brothers, Fred, of this city, and Dell, of Ashland, and two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Uhrich [sic], of Olivesburg, and Mrs. Moon [sic], of Ganges, also survive him. Private funeral services will be held Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, conducted by the Rev. M.L. Jenney, of the First Christian church.”
