Captain David Buttolph was killed during the Battle of Kennesaw Mountain during United States Civil War.

David was born in 1835 in Canada. He was the son of Joel Buttolph and Sarah Smith. [1] [2]

In August 1862 David enlisted as a Captain with his brother James with the 74th Regiment, Illinois Infantry , Company B. [3][4][5]

  2. Military records and FindAGrave say he was born in Vermont. However parents were living in Canada during this time, there are no records from Vermont and 1860 census says he was born in Canada.
