Biography

William H. Butterworth[1][2] was born on 31 May 1902,[3][1] in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania,[3][1] to William H Butterworth and Annie W Penn.[3][1]

His middle name may be 'Herbert'. His baptismal record reports his and his father's names as 'William Herbert'.[3] But his father's second marriage license application and World War I draft card both have 'William Henry'. [4][5] At least his father is probably named 'William Henry', since the minister recording the baptism is more likely to have made a mistake than William (or the clerks writing William's answers down).

On 27 July 1902, he was baptized, in St. Stephen's Episcopal Church, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His mother and her sister Georgia were his sponsors.[3]

William Butterworth died young.

He died on 23 April 1906, at 1651 Granite Street, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, of scalds accidentally received. He was buried in East Cedar Hill Cemetery, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, on 25 April 1906.[1][2]
