Westwood, Scarborough

Biography

Mary was the daughter of Richard and Sarah Butler (from marriage). She was born in Yorkshire 1772-1776 (from 1841 census)

Mary married Edward Stickney at Hull, Yorkshire on 17 Apr 1801 [1].

It seems likely that Edward was a miller in Westwood, Beverley, and her ggggson relates that she was something of a recluse, as she had epilepsy, and did not want to be seen having a seizure, and so worked with the cattle on Westwood (a commons - see [2]) The ggggson says Westwood Villa, Scarborough, was named for her connection and fondness Westwood - Mary would have died around the time that Westwood Villa was being built.

In 1841 Edward and Mary (both aged 65-70) were living in Flemingate, Beverley with their daughter, Margaret (20) [3].

Mary's death was registered in the Beverley Registration district in the March quarter of 1851 [4]

Research notes

Mary may have had a son, Richard, who died in 1835 [5]

Certain Children: Rachel (1803), Sarah (1807), Mary (1812), Margaret (1820),

Mary may have been a Pasture Master of Westwood - see
