Eli's father drowned in the Connecticut River when he was a baby. In 1920 he left to live with his brother Ebenezer in Pennsylvania. He later moved to Cattaraugus County, New York. [1]
In 1848 Eli received a land patent for about 50 acres. [7]
In 1890 they moved to Rockford.
Eli passed away in 1891. The death certificate said he died in the city jail without mentioning he was living with his son who was the sheriff and lived at the jail. [8]

The aged father of Sheriff Joel Burbank died at the Latter's home yesterday morning at 9:45.
The deceased was born in Springfield, Mass, in 1801 and was nearly 91 years of age. He was one of the earliest pioneers of this section, coming to this city in 1836. He settle on a farm in Harrison shortly afterward and resided there until his son removed to Rockford when he took up his residence with home. The deceased 's first wife died in 1840. He married his second wife in 1841.
Mr Burbank during his long residence became widely acquainted through the county and the old gentleman possessed a large circle of friends. He was a quiet, industrious man, and rarely took part in the busier affairs of men.
Besides his sons Thomas and Joel, the two well known officials, he leaves a widow and two other sons, John and Gordis, and a daughter, Mrs. Amanda Ellis.
The funeral will be held tomorrow from the sheriff's residence, at 9 o'clock. Short services will be conducted at Harrison in the afternoon, at 1 o'clock, Rev. J. M Conley, of Rockton, officiating. [9]
