Marie was born in Allegheny City (which is now known as the North Side in the City of Pittsburgh) on January 15, 1896. She is the daughter of Halbert Brown and Kate Steinmetz. She married William Welsh Clow in Wellsburg, Brooke County, West Virginia in 1913 and they had a large family. Marie died in Carroll County, Ohio on September 28, 1973 and is buried in a plot with her husband, William Welsh Clow, in Leavittsville Cemetery in Carroll County, Ohio.
