In 1851 Alexander is recorded on the census as living in Bilbster, in the parish of Watten, Caithness, with his father Alexander and siblings Elizabeth, William, Margaret, Magnus, Christina and Catherine. Alexander's trade was farm servant. Also living with the family was a journeyman shoemaker, David Gunn.[1]
