Biography

Joseph Breed was born on July 3rd or 4th, 1843 to James Breed and Sarah Louise Springer. He and his brother John Breed probably were twins ^[1].

Joseph and four of his siblings (Lydia, John, George, James) were recorded in Hartford, Connecticut, 13 July 1870 ^[2]. Their mother had died earlier in 1870, in Norwich, so possibly these five siblings had relocated together to Hartford by the date of the census.

Joseph married Eleanor W. Brayton (19 Jul 1852 - 20 May 1907) in November 1872, possibly in Illinois. They had no children.

Joseph was an assistant cashier of the Hartford National Bank.

Joseph Breed died on August 29th, 1888, at Hartford, Connecticut ^[3],^[4]. His grave is in Yantic Cemetery, Norwich, New London County, Connecticut, USA ^[5].

Joseph Breed's widow married second, 12 (or 17) Aug 1899 at Harbor Point, Michigan, Rufus E. Holmes ^[6],^[7] (4 May 1837 - 5 May 1913), widower of Lucy Ann Coe (1834 - 1873) and of Mary Perit (Coit; 1839-1897).
