Biography

Nancy was born about 1887.

In the 1900 census she was listed as a servant in the house hold of William Houland.[1]

She Married Will Pinder on August 22, 1903 at 15. [2]

On July 13, 1904 Nancy's son James Pinder was born.

In 1907, on March 12th, William Thomas Pender Jr. was born.

On September 18th, 1908, Nancy's husband Will was killed by a falling derrick while at work. [3][4]

Elza was born on October 12th, 1908.

In January of the next year, Nancy married D. T. (Terry) Wilson.[5]

In 1910, at 23 years old, she was living as a widow with her daughter Elzie Lee in the household of William Hullin (as a boarder). Her sons had been sent to live with relatives.[6]

October 24, 1910, Nancy and James Franklin Harty were married. They had five children together over the next 15 years.[7][8][9]

On October 20th, 1939 Nancy died.[10]

Research Notes

Her death certificate has her name as "Mary" but other facts align such as her husband's name, month and year of birth, and informant's name match her daughter Emma Mae's married name, also Emma Mae was also buried at Oak Ridge Cemetary in Piggott, Arkansas.

Hawes-2236 went to Kennett, Missouri, in March 2023, and spoke with a worker at Oak Ridge Cemetary who remembered the flag placed at the burial site of Nancy, although it is no longer there. A headstone was never placed.

In 1910 Elva(James) and Tom(William) Pinder were listed as the "nephew-in-law" of John E. Evans and his wife Mollie in Ballard, Kentucky. I think that makes Mollie either William Thomas Pender Sr.'s sister or Nannie Branch's sister.[11]

I am unable to find a marriage between John and Mollie that would give me her first married name (1910 census says it's her second marriage)

I think John at 10, is the grandson of a Mr. Elsey in 1880, but no adult Evans on the census.
