Vida was the son of Sallie and Minnie Blue. Sallie worked as a farmer and Minnie was a homemaker according to the US 1930 Census. Vida was the fifth child of eight children and the fourth of five sons.
The other children, all born in Alabama, were: daughter Florena, born in 1909; son Wiley, born in 1912; son Sam L., born in 1914; son Shelby, born in 1918; daughter Ophelia, born in 1921; daughter Pinkie, born in 1922: and son Nelson, born in 1926.
Private Vida Blue Sr. served in the United States Army Air Forces in World War II Service started: 6 Oct 1942 Unit(s): 492nd Aviation Squadron Service ended: 18 Feb 1946
Vida enlisted in the Army in October, 1942. He had finished grammer school and was working as a farm hand. He was sent to Ft. Benning with the rank of private.
Vida married Sallie Henderson in DeSoto Parish, Louisiana on 14 September 1947.[1] They had 6 children. His son, Vida, Jr.Vida, Jr. would go on to be a professional baseball player.
Vida worked as a laborer at a foundry and suffered from what is now known as black lung disease.
He died on 29 September 1966 at age 46 and is buried at Union Cemetery in Mansfield, DeSoto Parish, Louisiana.[2]
