hey pat quick question re this change. https://www.wikitree.com/index.php?title=Isard-12&diff=185537766&oldid=172261078

i'm not a data doctor, can you point where the preferred usage is now "colony of new jersey"?

"province of new jersey" is better, i want to address this with whoever made the decision thanks!

posted by H Husted
Sorry for the confusion. I have deleted "colony of" from both the death and birth places. The preferred name is just New Jersey. There had been United States listed for the death place, but John died prior to the formation if the US. There is an ongoing discussion about the use of colony, province, territory and other designations as well as citations of West (VA) or North (Carolina) and what years those citations apply. Since the computer seems to only pick up errors pre and post 1776 for American profiles, the official designations are not clarified. If you want to put province of NJ and see if the computer registers an error you could then address the issue to Ales Trtnik - https://www.wikitree.com/wiki/Trtnik-2 - one of the leaders of the DD project.

Additionally, there are 2 other errors on John Izard's profile that you could look at. His father was dead before John's birth and John's marriage date is after John died.

Hope this is helpful.

thank you, that's very helpful. i think i'm missing a generation with the Iszards. the usa correction was great, i only wondered about "colony". nj was a proprietorship then called a "royal province" when the jerseys were combined in 1703. so the decision should be state by state imho. thanks again!

Hi Pat,

I see you've removed the (implausible) marriage date of Burkard-6. I'd rather suggest that the marriage date is correct, and the husband's birth date and connection to parents is the wrong part of the biography. Otherwise the first child is born when he was 13, which would be quite young even for the time.
