Biography

Ida May was born in Truro, Nova Scotia in 1858, the daughter of Thomas and Eliza (Cummings) Blaikie. The family were in Cambridge, Massachusetts, by 1870,^[1] and soon removed to neighboring Somerville, Massachusetts. Ida graduated from Somerville High School with the class of 1878.^[2]

She married in 1881 to Frank W. Mason, a manufacturer of Somerville.^[3] The union ended in divorce.

She became a substitute teacher for the city of Somerville in 1893, and a couple years later was a 1st grade teacher at the Knapp School there.^[4] Her sister, Lena B. Blaikie, was also a Somerville school teacher before her marriage.

She married secondly to Dr. Edmond Henry Kyle, a physician of Ithaca, New York.^[5] The couple settled in Ithaca,^[6] where Edmund passed away in 1914.

Ida returned to Somerville, Massachusetts, where she owned a home in 1920 and had two lodgers.^[7] She was the president of the Visiting Nursing Association of Somerville.^[8]

Ida died in Los Angeles, California, in 1937.^[9]
