Captain Samuel Blackwell was born on 19 Jan 1710/11 at "Walnut Lodge", Northumberland Co., Virginia. His father was Samuel Blackwell, but his mother's name is not known. She died in childbirth or shortly thereafter. His father married Margery (Downing) Hudnall, a recent widow of Joseph Hudnall before 20 March 1710/11. According to the Encyclopedia of Biography, they had four more children. [1]
