Biography

Isaac Bishop, Sr is the son of Stephen Bishop and Mary Pierson

Isaac, Sr married Susannah Finch on 22 May 1718 in Stamford, Connecticut. Susannah Finch was the daughter of Samuel & Sarah (UMN) Finch. This is not to be confused with Samuel and Sarah (Hoyt) Finch, his parents. Samuel Finch's will left a legacy "To my beloved daughter Susanah Bishop wife of Isaac Bishop"


In Donald Jacobus' "History and Genealogy of Families of Old Fairfield" pg 203; "Finch, Samuel, s. of John. Of Stamford, made freeman Oct. 1669; m. Sarah Hoyt, dau. of Simon. Samuel, Sr., d. at Stamford, 23 Apr. 1698; his widow Sarah d. 19 Mar. 1712/3. Will 28 Sept. 1697; wife Sarah; sons Samuel, Joseph; daus. Sarah Holly, Martha Mead, Susannah Seeley, Rachel Finch. Inv. 20 May 1698. Adm'n on Est. of Widow Sarah granted to Joseph Finch, 1 July 1713. Children:

  • 1Sarah, m. 2 Dec. 1686, Jonathan Holly.
  • 2Samuel, m. Sarah ___; they had children recorded at Stamford:
  • ---Mary, b. 2 Mar. 1692/3; Susannah, b. 3 Mar. 1693/4, m. 2 May 1718, Isaac
  • Bishop; Sarah, b. 25 Sept. 1695, d. 23 Jan. 1715; Abigail, b. 15 July 1697, d. * 23 Jan. 1715; Hannah, b. 23 Mar. 1700/1; Martha, b. 23 July 1703.
  • 3Martha, m. — Mead.
  • 4Susannah, m. in 1692, Obadiah Seeley.
  • 5Rachel.

*6Joseph, d. at Stamford, 18 Dec. 1752; m. 7 Aug. 1703, Abigail Seeley.

  • These six children are enumerated in Thummel's book, "Descendants of John Finch and corroborated by the Will of Samuel Finch dated 28 Dec 1697.

I don't think The Isaac Bishop who was born in 1689 and married to Susannah Finch remarried in 1749 at the age of 60 to Sarah Weed. I have Isaac Bishop, Jr b. abt 1730 as the son of Isaac and Susannah Finch Bishop who married Sarah Weed, This Isaac and Sarah Weed Bishop did have 5 Children-- one of which was my ancestor, Jacob Bishop.
