In 1769 he settled as a merchant in NY and on 14 February 1776 was obliged to seek refuge in LI with his wife and eight children. At the peace, he retired from asylum to St. John at the head of a group of refugees and now resides there with his family. Claim for a small farm at Newton claimed by Francis Lewis, one of the Congress, and part-owner with him of the Dolphin; 5/8 of a schooner Commerce seized by HMS Kingfisher at Sandy Hook on her return from Charleston, SC, where she had takes the corp(s) of Edward Fenwick and his family, of the sloop Ranger taken and sunk by HM ships at Sandy Hook in March 1776; 1/8 part of the sloop Dolphin, Master Joseph Jenkins, with spermaceti on board taken by the Argo and condemned in Dominica; articles taken from his store; goods plundered on LI.
