Peter Berton was born on 24 Aug 1729 in Province of New York, and he passed away on 17 Nov 1791 in Oak Point, St. John, New Brunswick, Canada.[1]

Peter married Ann Duncan on 7 Sep 1758 in Trinity Church Parish,New York, Province of New York[2]

Page 197 or Page 181 Transcription by Joe Patterson Berton, Peter. Memorial 1786. For many years he was Capt. of a ship trading between London and NY. In 1769 he settled as a merchant in NY and on 14 February 1776 was obliged to seek refuge in LI with his wife and eight children. At the peace, he retired from asylum to St. John at the head of a group of refugees and now resides there with his family. Claim for a small farm at Newton claimed by Francis Lewis, one of the Congress, and part-owner with him of the Dolphin; 5/8 of a schooner Commerce seized by HMS Kingfisher at Sandy Hook on her return from Charleston, SC, where she had takes the corp(s) of Edward Fenwick and his family, of the sloop Ranger taken and sunk by HM ships at Sandy Hook in March 1776; 1/8 part of the sloop Dolphin, Master Joseph Jenkins, with spermaceti on board taken by the Argo and condemned in Dominica; articles taken from his store; goods plundered on LI. Yes, George Frederick Street Berton's father was George Duncan Berton, son of Peter Berton (UEL)

the following from http://www.biographi.ca/en/bio/berton_george_frederick_street_7F.html?print=1

says BERTON, GEORGE FREDERICK STREET, lawyer and office holder; b. 10 Dec. 1808 in Burton Parish, N.B., eldest son of George Duncan Berton and Ann Frances Street; m. 28 Sept. 1833 Delia Hooke in Fredericton, and they had three children; d. there 31 Jan. 1840.

The son of the high sheriff of York County
