Biography

Charles Berry is a part of US Black heritage.

Charles Berry was born 20 Oct 1891 in Richmond, Wayne County, Indiana, United States. He is the son of Daniel Boone Berry and Mary Ray.^[1][2] His family was living in Cincinnati, Hamilton County, Ohio in 1900^[3] and in Pittsburgh, Allegheny County, Pennsylvania in 1910.^[4]

Charles was married to Charlotte Smith about 1913.^[5] They lived in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania from at least 1917-1930, where Charles worked as a waiter.^[6][7][8] Although they seem to have stayed married until Charles's death, Charlotte tried to divorce him in 1926^[9] and they seem to have been living separately in 1946 when he died.^[10]

Charles died unexpectedly on 18 Feb 1946 in Columbus, Franklin County, Ohio. At the time of his death, he had been a resident there and had been a waiter in charge for the New York Central Railroad. He was buried at Union Cemetery, Columbus, on 22 February 1946.^[1][11][12]

BERRY- Charles, 399 Donaldson St. Husband of Mrs. Charlotte Berry, brother of Mr. Hassell Berry, Mrs. Bertha Goff, Mrs. Carrie Monroe, Mrs. Rebecca Hopkins, Mrs. Malinea Holly, Mrs. Elnora Arthur, expired unexpectedly Monday. He was a waiter in charge for the New York Central Railroad for more than 25 years. Friends may call at the Mortuary of Mrs. D. A. Whittacker & Son, after 4 p.m. Thursday, where services will be conducted at 2:30 p.m. Friday. Interment Union Cemetery.^[11]
